Miscellaneous Projects

Throughout my life, I've always kept myself busy with any number of projects. As a child my materials of choice were cardboard boxes, from which I built things like fusion reactors for my in-bedroom space ship.

Construction Projects

Homemade Costume Stand

Costume Stand

Having spent much time making a number of pretty neat costumes, I wanted some way to show them off. Mannequins would be ideal--but they cost upwards of $250 each--so I did the next best thing and made a simple costume stand from PVC pipe for under $15.

The stand currently includes a pants hanger, "legs" and "shoulders," and a "head." You don't have to use the "legs" on the form unless desired, and I've got the "feet" facing backwards for stability. Future enhancements could include adding articulated arms or knee joints, but as my goal was to keep cost to a mimimum, I think I'll leave it be for now.

Kegerator

After having helped a friend build a kegerator and discovering the joy of beer on tap, I decided to build my own. Currently in the design phase, my kegerator uses a large dorm refrigerator's guts for cooling and a custom-built enclosure perhaps to be built into my kitchen / living room wall as a bar.

Moulin Rouge Meow Cathouse

When a small family of stray kitties showed up of my deck several times a day, Beth and I got the idea to build them a cathouse, which I of course took the wrong way and made the joke that it should be called the "Moulin Rouge." Don't joke to designers--Beth came up with a plan for just that :)

Sewing Projects

Dingo Mattress Sheets

My girlfriend's dogs sleep on little mattresses, for which I have sewn a number of sets of fitted sheets to replace the pink french poodle (!) ones they had had to endure previously.

I have made Halloween, winter, and St. Patrick's Day sheets so far and am working on Fourth of July sheets currently.

Erika's Purse

My sister wanted a new purse for our trip to England and had sewn some scraps of fabric toegether in quilt-style; it was my task to complete the purse itself. Working without a pattern, I created a large purse from purple ducking she supplied.

Beth's Tote Bag

Beth took advantage of my sewing skills to replace a favorite but well-worn tote with this sassy black and pink construction.
