Magus Sisters Costumes
Costumes beyond the Alucard and Seras I made for Nekocon 6 had been an issue of much thought and not much work prior to August (with Nekocon slated for November!). I'd considered doing Inuyasha--I do have a custom-made wig for the roguish Takahashi-sama character--but I figured half a dozen other Inuyashas would be in attendance. I also had been working on Beth, trying to get her to cosplay Lum from Urusei Yatsura, although convincing her to wear a tiger-striped bikini and go-go boots had been something of a chore. My recent move to Northern Virginia had eaten up a lot of potential costuming time, too... so things weren't looking good for new Nekocon costumes.
That is, until my sister Brooke and I discussed possible Final Fantasy-themed character cosplays. I wanted to create costumes for some of the lesser-known characters, plus make some that would really stand out in terms of craftsmanship and originality. Most of the fun minor characters are female--from summoner Belgemine to the Chocobo Knights--but the ones that really caught our eyes as having stand-out potential were the transplants (literally--they arrive via seeds and emerge from flowers) from Final Fantasy IV, the Magus Sisters.
We didn't get the costumes completely finished in time for Nekocon, although Beth and Brooke made valiant efforts, and we did wear them as-is (about 65% done) anyway. Next up: the finishing touches and Katsucon 11.
