Anime Conventions

Ah, conventions... the true sign of utter geekiness. Places where you can go and be one with others sharing the same debilitating passion for anime as you, watching hours upon hours of anime fansubs while dressed in costume and eating cold pizza. Such is the life!

I haven't actually attended many true anime cons yet, although I try to make it to every AnimeFest held at Virginia Tech. Below are reports of my most recent con experiences.

NekoCon 6 - Nov. 7-9, 2003 at Virginia Beach

NekoCon is an annual event and about the closest real con to where I live. Although I had wanted to go in years past, I just never made it. This year, having registered early in June, I finally made the trip out to Virginia Beach.

NekoCon 7 - Nov. 5-7, 2004 at Virginia Beach

Yes, a return for NekoCon 7!

Katsucon 11 - February 18-20, 2005 at Arlington, VA

Now that I've moved to the D.C. area, there are a lot more cons right in my back yard. The best part about Katsucon is that I won't even need a hotel--the con is a five-minute drive from my apartment!

VTAS AnimeFest(s)

The Animation Society of Virginia Tech (VTAS) usually holds two AnimeFests a year, in November and March or thereabouts. This means a solid weekend of anime--and I mean solid, running from Friday evening until late afternoon on Sunday pretty much non-stop.

While not truly a "convention," AnimeFest has in the past hosted a cosplay, panels, video game tourneys, and a "dealer's room."
